Daltonganj, July 19: Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) has ‘dissolved’ one academic session of the postgraduate 2024-25 just to tide over the late running of the session.

On completion of more than 100 days in office here the Vice Chancellor Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh held a press conference on Saturday, where he announced, “There was no way out but to dissolve the PG session 2024-25. It was done to pace up with the session already lagging behind.”

PG session 2024-25 was a zero-admission session in this university.

Degrees Processed, Leave Accountability Introduced
In other bold initiative as the VC said,” We readied a huge 1,786 degrees in this 100-plus days. It gave tremendous relief to our students.”

To a question asked by this correspondent that he is being labelled as a ‘dictator’ who wants to run the university by his whims and fancies to which a cool and calm VC said, “I am not a dictator. I am a facilitator. I want everyone here to put in his best for the university. I want accountability of our workforce as no one can get away.”

“I know some of my actions and decisions have not gone well with some people here but it’s a part of the administration where one has to put in tough gestures and posture. I don’t care a fig for what others think of me. I believe I think of the well-being of the university,” he added.
“I have made it compulsory to keep a leave account of every officer and personnel of the university. It’s to be done on the e-samarth portal. Gone are the days when a teacher or non-teacher used to have the freedom of leave unaccounted.”
Work Culture and Exam Department Rejig
Again asked by this correspondent if he is more interested in Ranchi University, whose VC in charge he is now, to which he said, “My heart lies in the Nilamber Pitamber University.”
“I have done a major rejig in the exam department and in the offices. It is to instil a sense of work culture. I tell you I will do more such shufflings,” he reiterated.
Investment in Infrastructure and Library Upgrades
A sum of rupees 5 crores would be spent on the infrastructure facilities and books for the central university library.
Among his list of achievements of 100 days, he said, “Our administrative building was water-starved when I joined here. A drop of water was scarce. Today, our overhead tanks are full of water. We have two very successful deep borings.”
Dean of Students’ Welfare and Public Relations Officer assisted the VC during the little over one-hour press conference with a slow and guarded tone.

VC announced to have few new courses like certificate course in Theatre and Art saying the university will rope in artists of the surroundings to carrying on this course. The shut down courses like Journalism and Mass Communication would be revived depending on the response of the students to it.
Encroachment Issue with IRB Battalion Raised
“I am pained to say that IRB Bn has occupied our building and space, spreading little over 7 acres in the GLA College premises. I have written to the Jharkhand DGP to ensure the IRB returns our building and space for our academic use. I have not got any reply in this regard from the DGP,” rued the VC.
Convocation in September
Convocation of this university, second in 16 years, is expected to be in September, he said, but he wanted first the demarcation of the university’s land well ahead of it.

Record-Breaking Result Declaration and Classroom Revival Call
The VC lauded the efforts of the university exam department to publish results of the sixth semester in a record time of 45 days, the first of its kind here in this university, reminded the VC.
