Jamshedpur, June 27: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jamshedpur branch office, conducted an Industry Meet-cum-Sensitization Programme at Hotel Ramada in Bistupur today.

The event aimed to raise awareness among non-licensee industries and existing licensees manufacturing additional uncertified products, promoting wider adoption of BIS certification. Over 110 industry representatives participated.

The programme was attended by Braj Bihari Prasad, Quality Head, Tube Division, Tata Steel Ltd., and Santokh Singh, Vice President, Adityapur Small Industries Association.

In his keynote address, Kunal Kumar, Director & Head of BIS Jamshedpur Branch, underscored the need for greater compliance amid expanding Quality Control Orders (QCOs), which now cover over 750 products across sectors such as Cast Iron, Aluminium, Copper, Footwear, Toys, Ferro Alloys, Electrical Appliances, and Furniture.

He also emphasized sustainability in standard formulation and encouraged regular viewing of the ‘Standard Watch’ bulletin on BIS’s YouTube channel.

Braj Bihari Prasad shared Tata Steel’s collaborative experience with BIS and expressed support for MSMEs in meeting QCO requirements.

Santokh Singh appealed to unlicensed manufacturers, especially those in Cast Iron and Ferro Alloys, to seek certification proactively.

The technical sessions featured:

* Kaushalendra Kumar, Scientist-E, who provided an overview of BIS mandates and certification schemes.

*  Prabhunath Yadav, Scientist-D, who elaborated on QCO applicability, licensing procedures, and demonstrated the Manakonline portal.

* Dilip Chattar, Scientist-D, who detailed licence grant guidelines and compliance terms.

Key discussion points included:

* BIS roles and standardization benefits

* Certification schemes and ISI mark procedure

* Online licensing via Manakonline

Many participants expressed intent to initiate certification, marking the programme as a successful engagement in strengthening quality culture across industries.
