Jharkhand News: Road accident claims lives of three family members in Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Nov 4: In a tragic incident, a pick-up van fatally struck three people, including two schoolgirls and a woman, on the interstate GT Road near Fakirdih under the Govindpur police station, approximately 13 km from the district headquarters, on Monday morning.

Govindpur police station officer-in-charge Rustam Ali reported that the accident occurred around 6:40 AM. The pick-up van was travelling from Kolkata to Delhi when the driver lost control and collided with three schoolgirls and a woman who were waiting for a vehicle by the roadside.

Three individuals died at the scene, while a 13-year-old girl sustained serious injuries. The deceased have been identified as Rubi Khatoon (35), Janhvi Khatoon (13); and Sifat Parveen (9), daughter of Rubi Khatoon. The injured girl, Shajda Khatoon, has been admitted to SNMMCH.

Following the accident, enraged residents of Fakirdih blocked traffic on both sides of GT Road, leading to a queue of stranded vehicles extending over two kilometres.

Police officials have assured that action will be taken against the pick-up van driver, along with appropriate compensation for the victims’ families.

The driver was arrested immediately after the incident, as the vehicle was reportedly out of control due to high speed.
