Jharkhand’s Amrapali mangoes reach Dubai’s Lulu Mall, boosting women farmers’ global presence

Ranchi, July 7: Jharkhand’s Amrapali mangoes have expanded their global footprint, with the first consignment of two tonnes from Deoghar and Gumla districts reaching Dubai’s prestigious Lulu Mall through the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS).

The mangoes, produced by women-led Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, have attracted customers in Dubai for their quality and sweetness.

Women Farmers Drive Export Success

The consignment comprises Amrapali mangoes grown in orchards developed by the Mohanpur Aajivika Mahila Kisan Producer Society in Deoghar and the Gumla Raidih Agri Producer Company Ltd and MVM Baghima Palkot Producer Company Ltd in Gumla.

Earlier, consignments of Amrapali mangoes from Jharkhand had also been exported to international markets, including London and Italy.

JSLPS Expands Global Market Access

The Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society has been working to connect Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and FPOs with value addition, quality-based processing and modern marketing systems.

The initiative has helped increase the income of women farmers while enhancing the visibility of Jharkhand’s agricultural products in global markets.

To promote domestic sales, JSLPS also established special ‘Palash’ outlets across the state to market mangoes produced by SHG and FPO members. Following their success in local markets, the initiative was expanded to international destinations.

Minister Hails Women Farmers

Rural Development Minister Deepika Pandey Singh credited the achievement to the dedication of Jharkhand’s women farmers.

“The recognition that Amrapali mangoes are receiving in the global market truly belongs to the hardworking women of Jharkhand, whom we affectionately call our ‘Didis’. The mango orchards developed under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana have become a strong source of livelihood and self-reliance for women in rural Jharkhand,” she said.

She added that the quality of the produce and the support provided by JSLPS had enabled Jharkhand’s Amrapali mangoes to reach markets in Dubai, London and Italy.

“Our goal is to take products made by the state’s rural women to as many countries as possible and ensure a steady increase in their income by connecting women farmers with global markets,” the minister said.

She said the combined efforts of the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana and JSLPS have created a sustainable horticulture-based livelihood model that enables women farmers to secure better prices and access export-oriented markets.
